2015 ETA Showcase A Success
Submitted By Webmaster on Monday, December 14, 2015
The ETA`s 2015 Showcase event in Orillia was an overwhelming success. The event featured all 13 ETA Minor Midget teams, 2 Minor Midget teams from the NOHA and the 23rd annual ETA Midget All Star game. All ETA teams participated in 2 regular season league games. In addition there were 4 exhibition games between ETA teams and the NOHA teams as well as presentations by the OHL, OUA and the OMHA for the players to attend.

This was the second straight year that the North Central Predators have hosted the ETA Showcase at Orillia’s Rotary Place, a facility that is ideally suited for the event.

Over the course of the weekend more than 100 Ontario Hockey League and OUA scouts were in attendance to evaluate the ETA's draft-eligible players.

In the Midget All Star game ETA West came back from a 4-2 deficit to edge ETA East 5-4. The game was a fast paced affair with only 3 minor penalties in front of a large crowd in Rotary Place’s Blue rink.

Team West opened the scoring a 10:09 of the first period on a goal by York Simcoe’s Jordan Thompson with an assist from Richmond Hill’s Andrew Badali. Team East tied the score 36 seconds later when Central Ontario’s Connor MacEachern scored from Whitby’s Shane Bull and Perterborough’s Cole Ellis. Team West regained the lead at 6:56 when Badali tapped one home from York Simcoe’s Noah Doyle. The East responded with 2 goals prior to the end of the first period as Whitby’s Ryan Smith tallied from MacEachern and Quinte’s Colin VanDenHurk at 5:04 and Quinte’s Shelby Rienstra from Clarington’s Austin Jeffers at 4:19 to give Team East a 3-2 lead.

Team east upped their advantage to 4-2 at 13:42 of the second when Smith potted his second on a nice pass from MacEachern and Bull. Team West responded just over a minute later when Badali netted his second with assists going to North Central’s Matthew Priest and Richmond Hill’s Dante Spagnuolo at 12:32. Team West tied the game at 9:33 of the second when Markham’s Brendan Browne scored assisted by Doyle and North Central’s Kole Scott.

Both teams tightened up their defensive play in the second half of the game with the only goal coming from Team West’s Nathan Gooch (Ajax-Pickering) on a set-up from Raiders’ teammate Adam Wheaton.
