2016 ETA Showcase Another Success
Submitted By Bill Schlitt on Friday, December 16, 2016
The Showcase was developed by the ETA in 2009 to feature the Minor Midget division and the Midget All Stars. The event this year was hosted by the York Simcoe Express in the twin pad Aurora Community Centre and featured all 13 ETA Minor Midget teams, 2 Minor Midget teams from the NOHA and the 24th annual ETA Midget All Star game. All ETA Minor Midget teams participated in 2 regular season league games. In addition there were 4 exhibition games between ETA teams and the NOHA teams as well as presentations by the OHL, U Sports and the OMHA for the players to attend.

Over the course of the weekend more than 100 Ontario Hockey League and OUA scouts and General Managers were in attendance to evaluate the ETA's draft-eligible players.

Please select the 2016 Showcase Results tab on the home page for the game results and player stats from the event.

The Midget All Star game ETA East was a fast paced, spirited affair which saw Team East prevail 4-3. Tem East opened the scoring at 7:44 of the first period when Riley Girard (Clarington Toros) scored to cap off a nifty 3 way passing play on a 3 on 1. Assists went to Chad Yetman (Clarington Toros) and Nolan Hutcheson (Kingston Frontenacs). Team East continued to apply pressure and rang shots off the goal posts near the end of the first period and early in the second. Team East capitalized on a 2 on 1 at 18:46 of the second period to tie the score on a goal by Jonathan Yantsis (Markham Waxers) on a pass from Wes Weir (Richmond Hill Coyotes) and Will Sutherland (York Simcoe Express).

The checking remained tight until and the goaltending stellar at both ends throughout the second period. Both teams were able to kill off extended 2 man advantage situations. Team West jumped into the lead at 3:37 of the second when Rizvan Mansurov (Richmond Hill Coyotes) banged in a rebound. Wes Weir and Will Sutherland earned the assists. Team East tied the game 2-2- with 55 seconds remaining in the second period when James White (Central Ontario Wolves) scored following a nice pass play from Troy Bowditch (Central Ontario Wolves).

Team East regained the lead at 16:27 of the third period when Troy Bowditch buried an across the crease pass from Owen Smith (Central Ontario Wolves). James White picked up the second assist. A minute and a half later Team West knotted the score at 3-3 when Will Sutherland converted passes from Jonathan Yantsis and Josh Battistella (York Simcoe Express). The tie was short lived however as Carter Secord (Clarington Toros) send a laser into the top corner of the net at 13:45 following feeds from Riley Girard and Chad Yetman.

The sore remained Team East 4, Team West 3 for the remainder of the game as tight defensive play combined with solid goaltending prevailed.
